Robert Bashford

Robert Bashford was born in 1965 and lives in West Berkshire. He had been painting since the mid-1980s, which can be seen in the confidence and master hand in his work.

Robert is a self-taught artist. He started with watercolours but made the change to oil paints after reading about en plein air painting, an Impressionist technique of the act of painting outdoors in the environment of your subject. Now, he prefers to paint on site whenever possible.

Robert has taken part in many exhibitions, both solo and alongside other artists, but the ones he's most proud of are the open studios exhibitions in his local area, as well as exhibiting in London with the Royal Society of British Artists at the Mall Galleries. He has also exhibited at the Patching Art Festival, where he won the Dewernt Award.

Robert's main interests lie in light and colour, and he likes to travel to light when he is out painting. He prefers to use a pochade box, as this allows him to carry his tools wherever he goes without the bulk that would require careful preparation and planning. This allows him to stop exactly where inspiration strikes.
